Our volunteers are our greatest asset and resource. You don’t need to be an experienced search and rescue person to volunteer with us. We are so fortunate to have hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life and have found that everyone who wants to volunteer brings some skill to the table, though not everyone is suited for every task. While we are fortunate to have a number of industry experienced and technical people such as pilots, doctors, and computer-savy volunteers, many folks serve as part of a ground party search team. We know from experience, that it takes a TEAM of volunteers to conduct a successful SAR mission.
Groups often volunteer with us. We are very fortunate that each year, a large group of UMaine students from the Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism help us with cleaning and resetting our vehicles and gear. Many students have become DEEMI volunteers individually. We appreciate their spirit of volunteerism.
Melissa Semenov works in NC with her dog team but has a Maine connection by her family. She has been on missions, trained and from afar helps DEEMI do our mission better. She is training on board our Huey in this image.
