12/17/18  One page article in the UMaine Today, 2018 Special Edition. This article titled “Student innovation has the potential to improve search and rescue efforts” highlights a project by UMaine student and DEEMI volunteer Dakota Sudbeck, and his UMaine student partner Dan Sclabig. The article explains their efforts using UAV photos of a person to create 3D model and then estimate the person’s body weight. This is critical information for early assessment of a victim allowing for better interventions medically. DEEMI board Member and co-founder Dr Robert Bowie advised the pair throughout. Pilot Vinal Applebee assisted with UAV photography.

11/15/18 – Dan Warner and others were interviewed by WVII-7 for a special video segment on Search And Rescue crews changing their tactics for cold weather searches. Watch this video “Braving The Elements to Save Lives“.

11/13/17 – UAS chief pilot Vinal Applebee and others were interviewed by WVII-7 for a special video segment . “Saving Lives – EYE IN THE SKY“.

Sept/Oct 2017 – UAS pilot Nancy Rimms-Staples was interviewed in the by-monthly national magazine Aviation for Women” , in an article title The Power of Drones.

Feb/Mar 2017 – Director of Operations Richard Bowie and Chief UAS pilot Vinal Applebee were interviewed in the bi-monthly national magazine inside unmanned systems” , in an article title UAS Search & Rescue – Help From Above.

07/24/16 – Chief UAS pilot Vinal Applebee had the opportunity to explain to WABI-TV5’s  Zachary Warren in this revealing video how drones are becoming an important asset in Search and Rescue operations
