12/17/18 One page article in the UMaine Today, 2018 Special Edition. This article titled “Student innovation has the potential to improve search and rescue efforts” highlights a project by UMaine student and DEEMI volunteer Dakota Sudbeck, and his UMaine student partner Dan Sclabig. The article explains their efforts using UAV photos of a person to create 3D model and then estimate the person’s body weight. This is critical information for early assessment of a victim allowing for better interventions medically. DEEMI board Member and co-founder Dr Robert Bowie advised the pair throughout.
08/01/18 Doc Bowie was interviewed by Eastern Maine Healthcare System’s PATHWAYS media channel for this informative article and video titled “WHEN EVERY MINUTE COUNTS – Doctors, students, and search and rescue volunteers join forces to make better drones that can save lives“, explaining DEEMI’s role in Search & Rescue and in our relationship with University of Maine biomedical students to develop new ways to remotely assess patients found in the field using our UAVs (drones), and then deliver needed medication, supplies and more!
